Supporting Student Agency, Engagement and Success Through Inclusive Folk Arts Pedagogy<\/h3>\n

As a folklorist, I know that narratives based in racism, sexism and other ideologies of power and control act insidiously (and often invisibly) in our schools and communities to create fear and division. In an effort to create safe spaces in classrooms across the country for learners from all walks of life, inclusive folk arts pedagogy can facilitate greater understanding between students and educators of many cultural backgrounds.<\/p>\n

The Arts Education Partnership is dedicated to advancing the arts in education through research, policy and practice towards a time where every student in America succeeds in school, work and life as a result of a high-quality education in and through the arts. A national coalition of more than 100 education, arts, business, cultural, government and philanthropic organizations, AEP was established in 1995 by the National Endowment for the Arts, the U.S. Department of Education, the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies (NASAA).<\/p>\n
