Historical documents? Old photographs? Diaries?\u00a0 How about\u2026sound recordings?\u00a0Join Vermont Folklife for an online professional learning workshop for educators. Learn how to access, engage with, and teach from oral histories and more from the Vermont Folklife Archive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">VT Folklife is in the third year of a project funded by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loc.gov\/programs\/teachers\/about-this-program\/teaching-with-primary-sources-partner-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources Program<\/a> focused on making ethnographic and oral history archives accessible to classroom teachers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><span class=\"sqsrte-text-color--lightAccent\"><strong>As part of this project this workshop will:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul data-rte-list=\"default\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"\"><span class=\"sqsrte-text-color--lightAccent\">Introduce learning resources and curriculum developed with our project partners at<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/locallearningnetwork.org\/\"><span class=\"sqsrte-text-color--lightAccent\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"sqsrte-text-color--lightAccent\">Local Learning<\/span><\/a><span class=\"sqsrte-text-color--lightAccent\">, the national network for folk arts in education<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\"><span class=\"sqsrte-text-color--lightAccent\">Offer strategies to introduce students to the value and function of archives and archival research<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\"><span class=\"sqsrte-text-color--lightAccent\">Provide a brief overview of ethnographic and oral history methodologies to better understand the unique nature of these primary sources<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"\"><span class=\"sqsrte-text-color--lightAccent\">Invite participants to become involved in our efforts to make our archival collections more accessible and useful to educators<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\">Ethnographic sound recordings\u2013including oral history interviews, musical performances and soundscapes\u2013are distinct kinds of primary sources: they are first-hand accounts created with the intention of documenting human experience.
